8th House is a multi-disciplinary design project where I asked what happens when we develop a visual identity not to communicate commercial brands, but to communicate architectural design?

As part of my Master’s of Design thesis (READ HERE), it explores how a parallel and interwoven design approach to both architecture and graphic design, both driven by the same design concept, can expand on their individual impacts, creating a more cohesive and expansive design narrative.

Inspired by the physical and mechanical properties of bamboo scaffoldings - a local vernacular craft of Hong Kong, the design concept captures the soft, wave-like movement of the outer safety netting and the “pixelation” of the inner structure created by the scaffolding grid.

What resulted is an overall design narrative that expresses the three characteristics through architecture and the visual identity. Each design  component has a strength in what they can communicate, coming together to form a more expressive and cohesive design.
